Imperial Guard makeshift bunker

When I saw the competition criteria, I knew I had to enter.

The idea for this entry is a last-ditch covered "bunker" that's based mainly on the top of a Chimera APC that's been ripped off the rest of the chassis during an explosion, and thanks to some half-assed welding by the field repair crew, remains relatively intact. It forms the roof, with I-beams, H-columns, and perhaps a ruined building girder holding the thing up, with the usual, and some unusual battlefield detritus forming the walls, perhaps with some spikes made with sheared and/or twisted pieces of sheet metal sharpened to a nasty point, and some small bits of razor wire arranged to form a continuous line, more or less.

I might not work on this much until after GenCon though...

I've already started the makeshift fortification. In this pic I've put the Chimera top on a foam hill, since I thought the guardsmen should have a reason for throwing together a fort there as opposed to anywhere else. I've also stuck some spikes in, and I'll stick some posts in as well, for the guardsmen to hold the junk up with.

More work on the bunker. I've covered the pink foam in sand, sprayed it with watered-down PVA, and painted it a shade of brown in case it shows through where i missed a spot painting, and also to protect the foam from the priming spray. I've also put up some walls, put it on a matboard base and started adding "concrete debris", which is really crumbled excess plaster from using my Hirst Arts molds, as well as miscast pieces up towards the top.

All that riprap really gives it a BRUTAL look. I would not want to assault that position! Seriously gnarly.

This entry is looking really good and as Tob says - Brutal. Keep it going.

Yes, it's been a while, but I'm finally getting down and putting some paint on this thing.

But first, a flat black basecoat/primer:

Then I overbrushed the concrete chunks and the sand with Vallejo Medium Gray and Stonewall Gray, put some metallic paint on the metal parts, followed by a bit of color in the center (having worn off the edges) to break up the black/gray monochromy.

Then I painted some matte medium on places where i wanted my MIG old rust powder to stick, and then used it to put some rust effects on the metallic parts before giving the whole thing a coat of matte varnish to seal in the powder.

My next steps will be to stipple and drybrush orange onto the metal, give the whole fort a couple of grime washes, and add substantially weathered razor wire between the walls and spikes.

I need to get a shot showing the dimensions, and a couple in better lighting conditions, but once I get those, this entry is ready to submit.

Then I took some painted models and placed them on for some dramatic shots (in the lighting conditions that would have been better for the empty overall shits, no less...). Yes, the troops are Tempestus Scions instead of regular Guardsment, but they're the only Astra Militarium infantry unit I've painted so far...

Ooooh, the Tempestor is staring down the Nob. I couldn't have taken a better shot if I tried.
