Term:  plaster

The term is generally used to refer to "Gypsum Plaster", also know as "Plaster of Paris". Plaster is a type of building material based on gypsum (hence the name "Gypsum Plaster"), a large deposit of which can be found at Montmartre in Paris (hence the name "Plaster of Paris").

Gypsum plaster powder is made by heating gypsum to release water. When the dry powder is mixed with water, it re-forms into gypsum, initially as a paste but eventually hardening into a solid.
